THE results from this week’s According To You gift shop poll are now in – thanks to the many people in town who have cast their vote through the News Telegraph’s social media channels.

We have tallied up the results and can confirm the top three places to get the best presents and gifts, according to you, in a very tight contest.

The winner was Acorn Country Store in Horse and Jockey Yard, with Past to Present a close second.

Third place went to Village Rainbow in St John Street.

Readers used our website, Facebook and Twitter sites, as they voted over the past five days for the town’s top gift shop.

John Harrison, who owns Acorn Country Store with his wife Kay, said he was genuinely surprised to hear about the accolade. He said: “I’m really very pleased to hear that Ashbourne people think that well of us.

“But to be fair, it’s really down to the staff here – they are the heart of the business. They come to all the trade shows and decide what we should be stocking so I have to thank them for their hard work and dedication.”

John said that part of the store’s success may be down to having two floors. He said: “We can stock a really wide variety of things with the space we have. Upstairs is the kitchen shop and gallery, where we also frame clients’ own pictures and photos, then downstairs we have clothing and gifts.”

John and Kay bought the shop in 1992, which they enlarged in 1998 and then underwent major refurbishment in 2008.
