ANNE Bourne was a member of the winning team at Ashbourne Golf Club Ladies' section's annual open AM AM stableford competition on Saturday.

There were some very good teams out and the weather and course conditions were reflected in some impressive scoring on the day.

Two stableford scores counted on each hole apart from the 5th and 14th where all four scores counted.

Ashbourne player Bourne scored an excellent 86 and her playing partners from Matlock Golf Club, Pamela Hedley, Jill Smith and Judy Gascoigne took the honours by a single point.

In second spot were Jill Bainbridge and Denyse Hall from Ashbourne, Janice Phillips from Burton and Jude Pearce from Uttoxeter Golf Clubs.

Kay Kearton, Carol Simpson, Sian Mansey of Holsley Lodge and Pauline Bramley from The Hallamshire, who all play off single figure handicaps, took third prize with 84 points, followed closely by Ashbourne's Anne Colwell and Sandra Maxwell plus Jane Ackling and Jo Trouve from Charnwood Forest.

Maxwell also won the nearest the pin at the 14th hole, capping a very good day all round for the Ashbourne lady captain.

The club's Bronze Team travelled to Broughton Heath and continued their unbeaten run by winning 3-2.

Hilary Knott, playing off 22 gave 3 shots, Diane Woollands, off 23 gave 2 shots, Sheila Barrington, off 23, gave 4 shots, Jean Bissell, off 26, gave 5 shots and Surya Dickinson, off 29, gave 3 shots.

The two losses were close run things.

Knott was disappointed to lose her match 2 and 1, as was Diane Woollands, who lost her match on the last green to an on form putter.

Barrington won her match 5 and 4 then Bissell and Dickinson both had fine results, winning their matches 6 and 5 to secure an excellent victory.

The team's last away match is at Erewash Valley tomorrow, followed by the final match in the division against Kedleston at home on July 24.
