MORE than 2,000 people have applied for jobs at a theme park near Ashbourne, as it makes an early start to its annual recruitment drive.
Alton Towers bosses are offering more than 1,000 jobs this year and say publicity received by the resort’s parent group, Merlin Entertainments, has led to a surge in interest.
Kerry Alcock, resort recruitment manager, said: “We offer around 1,200 seasonal positions every year and there will be some additional roles that will become available nearer to the opening of our fabulous new attraction in the Spring.
“For now though we are concentrating on the commercial areas of the business, which includes retail, the hotels, and our general ride operations.
“All of our recruitment is done via an on-line application form through our website and the applications started to come in the week after we’d closed.
“We also use our Facebook page to highlight any particular vacancies that may be of interest and to keep people up to date on how recruitment is progressing.
“The recent publicity around our parent company going public has also highlighted the variety of businesses within our group, which means we are attracting an extremely high calibre of candidates.
