POLICE in Ashbourne are appealing for information following bike thefts in the area.

A blue and white coloured Vitesse bike was stolen sometime overnight between Sunday, August 10 and Monday, August 11 at a house on Old Derby Road.

The thieves entered the back garden and stole the bike.

Officers from the Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team are carrying out patrols in the area and are urging residents to report any suspicious activity to them on 101 or 999 in an emergency.

The policing team will also be speaking to homeowners about the steps that they can take to increase their home security and prevent themselves from becoming a victim of crime.

This includes ensuring that any outbuildings, sheds or garages are properly secure and that all valuable items are kept out of view.

Cyclists are also being advised to consider purchasing a top quality lock and to never leave their bike unattended and insecure in poorly lit areas.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact PC Darrian Fearn on 101, the non-emergency number for Derbyshire police.
