AN Ashbourne grandfather has cycled 100 miles in storm conditions to raise money for charity.

Steve Mainwaring, 67, completed the Ride London - Surrey cycle challenge in less than six hours, in aid off the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. (JDRF)

Steve said he was motivated to raise money for the charity after his 11-year-old grandson Lachlan was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes when he was just 18 months old.

The bikes ride took place on Sunday, August 10, and so far Steve has raised more than £300 for JRDF, but he said he still hopes the final figure will increase.
