Award for excellent customer service

AN ASHBOURNE cafe owner has been presented with an award in recognition of her ‘kind-hearted and caring’ service.

Susan Rowley, owner of the former Ashbourne Coffee Stop in Shaw Croft car park was given the Dennis Skidmore Macmillan Trophy as a way of thanking her for the support she has given to customer Dennis Skidmore, who has mouth cancer.

Mr Skidmore said: “I don’t understand why the council said she had to close her coffee shop as she had an excellent hygiene award, everything was always clean and tidy, the cafe was very popular and her staff were always pleasant and kind, just like Sue.

“She liked to help people who had special dietary requirements or eating difficulties and if I ordered cake she would bury it in loads of whipped cream to help it go down, at no extra charge,

“Sue held a regular Macmillan coffee morning and kept a Macmillan collection box at the cafe, which I used to collect and pass on to the charity.”

After losing its planning battle the coffee shop has now closed its doors.
