BLUES-ROCK lovers are being invited to concert featuring a guitarist who takes the technicalities of Vai and Satriani and blends it with the excitement of Hendrix to create high energy blues-rock in the vein of Joe Bonamassa and Aynsley Lister.

The Chantel McGregor band has been called “one of the most exciting rock and blues musicians that the UK has ever produced.”

At the age of eight Ms McGregor became the youngest person in the country to pass her rock school exam and at 12 she was jamming in her native Bradford and evolving into a talented musician.

Despite being described as a prodigy at 14 she was told by major labels: “great voice, but girls don’t play guitar like that.”

Wisely ignoring that advice, she enrolled at the Leeds College of Music and became the first student in the college’s history to achieve a 100 per cent pass mark, with 18 distinctions.

Ms McGregor has since stepped out in the pro-musician world and her live performances are confirming that this is rock blues for the new age.

A recent quote in Nightshift music magazine reinforces this: “Chantel McGregor deserves to be held up as a messiah of blues-rock and given her own mountain, she doesn’t strum or pick her guitar but almost bends and distorts it, as if she’s channelling the ghost of Hendrix through her fingers.”

The artist has performed on stage with Joe Bonamassa on two of his tours.

When asked about performing on stage Ms McGregor said: “Playing live to great audiences is one of the most wonderful feelings, I feel so lucky to be able to do something that I love, see the world and bring happiness to others through my music”

The group’s debut album ‘Like No Other’ was produced by Livingstone Brown, who has worked with such artists as Tina Turner and Bryan Ferry.

In 2013, Ms McGregor was voted Female Vocalist of the Year, and Guitarist of the Year, the first time in the history of British Blues awards that a female artist has won that particular title.

The concert will be held at the Flowerpot, King Street, Derby on Saturday, December 14, admission is £11 and doors open at 8pm.
