ASHBOURNE Aztecs under-14s came away winners of the JCB Rotary Club five-a-side tournament at Rocester on Sunday.

Each of the five qualifying matches was 10 minutes long, one way, and after going 1-0 down to Woodville Rangers Black in their first game, the Ashbourne team staged a splendid comeback in their other games.

Showing tremendous grit and determination, the Aztecs team won the remaining three games and drew one, going through with 10 qualifying points.

The semi-final was a nail-biter. Playing five minutes each way, they went through against Newhall A.

They then beat Newhall B in the grand final, to the delight of proud manager Julian Burton.

All the members of his eight-strong squad received a medal.

Aztecs squad: Kyle Lambert, Jordan Burton, Oliver Reed, Nicholas Lueer, Tom Hodkinson, Jack Bowers (captain), Will Farr and Kacper Stoch.
