BAILIFFS have swooped on a Derbyshire café, serving a High Court enforcement writ.

Two vans and a police car were parked outside Dillons, in St John Street, Ashbourne, at about 3.30pm this afternoon.

A notice on the vans, which were parked in the nearby coach waiting bay, informed traffic wardens that the vehicles were carrying out a high court enforcement.

The owner of the café, which has remained open this afternoon, declined to comment.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police, which sent two officers to be present at the scene, said: “Bailiffs are currently at a business in St John Street carrying out a civil matter and they have a right to be in the property.

“We were called by the owner of the property who asked us to attend.

“No arrest has been made.”

It's time bailiffs were abolished. They belong in the past like witch burning.
