A MUSIC video launched by a Sainsbury’s Ashbourne warehouse operative has received hundreds of hits on file sharing website YouTube.

The video, by Staffordshire band Luna Lopus, features frontman Chris Rushton, 27, who works in the warehouse at Sainsbury’s Ashbourne.

Enemies and Friends is the title of the song featured in the video which has attracted almost 300 hits since it was launched last week.

The talented supermarket worker released an album of original songs in 2008 featuring recordings on which he played every instrument himself.

Now with a settled line-up of Mr Rushton, bass guitarist Nick Hodges and drummer Daryl Pardesi, Luna Lopus has created the music video on a very tight budget, putting Mr Rushton’s ideas into practice by enlisting the help of family and friends and creating their own padded cell for a set.

The band has had a series of gigs in the Staffordshire and Derbyshire areas, but are hoping the video will help them get more work across the UK.

Mr Rushton said: “Luna Lopus started out as a solo project, but it has now settled into a three piece band.

“The album is still relevant to what we’re doing now and we’re getting it onto iTunes and other websites, but we are playing new material.

“For us, the video was about making the step from a song to something visual to help us connect with people.” The video, which features the band playing in a padded cell, was inspired by movies such as The Green Mile and The Jacket and a lot of research was put in to making it as realistic as possible.

Mr Rushton added: “My colleagues at Sainsbury’s were all really surprised when they saw the video. It was great that they were shocked but supportive as well and it showed a different side to me working in the warehouse.

“We’re hoping people will check out the video on Youtube and if they like what they see we can get more gigs. We also starting work on a second album.” Luna Lopus, Enemies and Friends, is available to view at Youtube.com and the video is also set to be uploaded to the band’s website www.lunalopus.com.
