AN ASHBOURNE befriending service is thanking everyone who supported their recent coffee morning.

Careline offers telephone support to anyone living in the area who is vulnerable or lonely.

Project co-ordinator Jo Bradley said: “We had an excellent turn out and it was nice to see so many members and volunteers as well as staff from the hospital and patients from the Okeover Ward.

“Ashbourne Mayor Steve Bull officially opened the event, with Mayoress Sue Bull joining us for a coffee later in the morning.

“The Ashbourne Singers entertained everyone as they enjoyed their mince pies, singing carols around the Christmas tree.

“So far we’ve raised around £1,700 which includes the proceeds from our Christmas Raffle.

“Every penny raised will go towards keeping our service going, our free calls make such a difference, especially at this time of year when the long nights can lead to people feeling increasingly isolated.”

The service is looking for additional volunteers, more information is available by calling 01335 210353.
