ASHBOURNE'S best-known pizza chef, Benny Morabi, is the mystery buyer who splurged £100,000 on the Union Street toilet block, the News Telegraph can exclusively reveal.

Benny, and his brother Majit, say they are excited at the prospect of turning the unloved building into something that the town can be proud of, but at the same time admits he has 'no idea' what to do with it yet.

The Iranian, who has lived in the town for around 28 years and runs a successful takeaway in Compton, speaks openly about his love for Ashbourne and his desire to be involved in it by transforming one of its redundant buildings.

Benny has also snapped up the former Tourist Information Centre in the Market Place and says he has 'big plans' for the building, which set him back £120,000 at a London auction this week - but he has not revealed what he has in mind just yet.
