Where's global warming when you need it?

YOU may have noticed in the last few weeks the weather's been a bit nippy.
We're told, by the same scientists that promised us last year we'd see a 'barbecue summer' followed by a mild winter, that this all happened because I still haven't invested in double glazing. Sorry about that.
But before you all run at me with your pitch-forks and glue the temperature dial on my washing machine to 30C, consider one very important point.
The global warming theory is, quite possibly, a load of old tosh.
If you listen to one set of scientists - clever, well respected people paid a fortune to study the climate, the world is heating up in an un-precedented way.
But if you listen to another lot, some equally clever men who know the same stuff but aren't steered in any way by any Government departments, the world's not doing anything out of the ordinary.
The climate has changed, there's no denying that and the human race might have contributed a bit to this, but there's just slightly less than diddly-squat we can do about it. So why are we still being told about new ways we're all being charged to fight against it?
The point is that the same people that didn't see our rubbish summer - and then our bitter winter - coming surely can't be trusted to tell us what will be happening in 20 years time? Let alone 100 years time.
Perhaps if they spent less time trying to figure out the precise day, month and year Norfolk will become the next Atlantis they'd manage to tell us confidently whether or not it will rain at the weekend.
Believe it or not, I'm quite environmentally conscious. I meticulously separate all my rubbish in to recyclable items and non- recyclable items and I would be happy to have double glazing and better loft insulation if I could afford it.
I am worried about the future effects of climate change but I'm even more worried about the fact that us humans are getting the blame - and the long-held notion that if everyone changes their lifestyle then everything will be fine scares me. It won't.
If the sun wants to make the world warmer then no amount of electric cars and re-useable carrier bags will stop it. Watching our carbon foot-print is just going to make our lives more miserable.
And for what? A wet summer and winters that seem to get colder each year.
