WELL it is a couple of days after the game now, and I managed through this site to see the battered remains of three weeks of paintwork down the pan!!!!
I was surprised to see how much and how quickly the paint came off both balls this year. Enough coats were applied: five primer, five top enamel, the design, then three coats of varnish.
The same was applied years ago and the design remained pretty intact apart from cracked, 1998, 1999 and 2000 particularly stand out as years that survived!...maybe the leather was from Primark this year...job lot for a fiver!!! JUST KIDDIN!!!!!!! so don't write up and complain!
When I finally surfaced out of bed on Thursday morning and hobbled into town as I was very stiff (no filthy coomments from the rogues gallery!). I felt sad for lots of reasons I guess...sad that it was all over for another year, sad for the grass that looked brown and not green sad too for the disgarded trainer in the forks of a tree, the unwanted pair of trackies strewn over another tree and the lost wool hat perched on the sill of a window...the only reminders that a sea of grasping hands had been there the day before!
Just glanced up to my ceiling and seeing two empty hooks reminding me that i must collect my own Shrovetide balls out of Mrs Manion's antique shop and set them back where they belong for another year!!!"
