VALUABLE antique items including a gold candlearbra have been stolen during a burglary at a property near Ashbourne.

Detectives working for Ashbourne Police are appealing for witnesses after a private house near Brailsford was raided shortly before midnight on Sunday.

The owners of the property, in Hall Lane, Brailsford, went to bed shortly before midnight and, soon after making their way upstairs, heard a ‘series of bangs’ on the ground floor.

They went to check what had caused the noise and discovered a gold candlearbra missing from the top of a side board.

After inspecting the property further more items were found to be missing, including another candlearbra and an expensive antique vase.

It is believed the burglars forced their way in to the buiding through a ground floor window before raiding the house and making off with the goods.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the burglary is asked to call Derbyshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555111.
