TEAM Ashbourne claimed a total of 13 goal medals at the British Outdoor Inline Skating Championships at Tatem Park, London.

Nine-year-old Finbarr Brooks, who took the British indoor championship earlier in the year, led the way, taking the 500m and 100m titles. Toby Brooks gave great support by claiming the runner-up slot in the 500m race.

But it was in the veteran classes that many of the team's victories came.

Angela Wymer took gold in the 500m final and team coach Ben Gaskin was first in the men's final.

He was followed by Alex Wymer, who also achieved bronze in the 1000m race. In the 200m time trial, Gaskin won gold with a time of 21.438 seconds and Angela came first with a time of 25.238.

Angela took gold again for a fourth event in the 3,000m but this time Alex finished with a win and Gaskin the silver.

The veterans 500m points race was won by a Alex with Ben second.

The men's veteran 3000m team of Ben and Alex and finished first in 5.11.82, while Danny Lee and Joe Matkin were on the podium in third.

Sam Gaskin the beginners' Rat Races were represented by Sam Gaskin.

Sophie Hollick in the pupil girls came fourth and Joe Matkin took silver after a very competitive race.

In the cadet girls, Olivia Stocks came second in her final, as did Millie Ainsworth, while in the cadet boys Dan Lee finished fourth in the 500m final.

Lauren Gaskin, aged eight, was the team's youngest competitor and finished sixth in the 500m and 1000m events.

Ashbourne Speed Skating Club meet at the Leisure Centre in the town every Saturday morning from 10am-12pm.

Beginners are welcome to try the sport which parents and children can enjoy together.
