AN ASHBOURNE village church will be benefitting from a recent Christmas market.
St John the Baptist in Mayfield held the fundraising event in the church rooms, with additional stalls being housed outside in a marquee.
Visitors were also invited to admire flower arrangements and other creative designs sited in each of the church’s windows.
The displays had been created and donated by local community groups and businesses, and were designed to reflect a Christmas carol theme of their choice.
Each carol was recorded and played as background music in the church to further add to the Christmas atmosphere.
The vicar’s wife, Janice Owen said: “It’s so wonderful to see how much teamwork and community spirit went into this day.
“Everyone got involved, our local school, bowls team, first responder group, and also businesses including Slaters the funeral directors, the Rose and Crown and Hayes joinery.
“We were a little worried the night before, as it was so windy we thought the marquee might fall down, but on the day the sun came out and we all had a fantastic day.
“Over £1,000 was raised, and this will gratefully be received for the church funds.”
The church will be open on Saturday, December 7, from 2pm until 4pm, for anyone who missed it last week.
