CHARLOTTE Colclough made it two wins on the trot when women's cycle racing returned to the Darley Moor circuit, which is near Ashbourne.

Both the organisers, Ashfield RC, and the sponsors, locally-based women's cycle equipment supplier Cicla, were delighted to see the number of women on the start line up from 13 last time out to 31 this time, with conditions perfect for racing.

The race was for category two, three and four women and the pace was fast throughout.

Several attacks were clawed back until Colclough, Sam Burman and Natasha Morrison went away from the rest on the last lap, before contesting a spring finish, in which Colclough edged ahead of Burman.

Cicla director Louise van Adrichem said: "The jump in attendance from 13 to 31 is a significant improvement.

"With active committee and club members delivering on adding women's-only races to the clubs' itinerary, a shift is occurring, with more races being laid on.

"This both makes giving racing a go so much more inviting for beginners, while also breeding more competition."
