ASHBOURNE Ladies have been crowned Derbyshire Girls & Ladies Division Two champions with one game still to play.

A 2-2 draw at home to Castle Donington was enough and Ashbourne will now look to round off a superb season by winning the Divisional Cup.

The final is to be played on August 28 and, once again, the opposition will be Castle Donington.

Ashbourne knew that only a win for their opponents could stop them being crowned league winners on the day.

They started nervously, as everybody knew there was so much at stake, but the girls did not sit back.

They attacked from the start and had numerous chances to take the lead but could not convert them.

Just before half-time, Castle Donington were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area and sloppy defending allowed them to take a lead into the interval.

Ashbourne pressed on in the second half and Laura Sears levelled the scores.

However, Castle Donington went ahead again with a well-taken goal and it started to look as if Ashbourne were heading to first home defeat of the season.

With time running out, they were awarded a free kick from a similar spot to the one the away side scored from in the first half and Demi Croxhall stepped up to convert it and make the score 2-2.

After some nervy last minutes, Ashbourne were able to start celebrating their success.

ASHBOURNE: Swift, Wood, Allsop, Coles, Wager, Fearn, Clarkson, Shenton, Sears, Croxhall, Glanville, Dale, Kenny, Ford.
