PRIME CATTLE - Auctioneer: Charles Hollis

Another healthy market from a numbers point of view again more OTMs forward with an average of 118.75p/Kg.

OTMs at least 9p/Kg dearer than anywhere else and even more than that at the majority of other markets.

The clean cattle and bulls are at present a depressed trade, like everywhere else, due firstly to Polish meat and secondly due to new recent regulations with supermarket control, in that they are refusing cattle straight from the market without having been on a holding for 21 days.

This obviously does not affect the standard of meat and is just another effort to screw the industry. It also proves a point that when boning and steaking, cows being dearer per pound than the lower end of the market including the clean cattle and bulls.

The Ottewell family had a couple of top prices in the OTMs and the bulls with a Limousin making 174p/Kg (1364.16) and their British Blue bull - 200p/Kg (£,1376). Followed again by the Faulconbridge’s who had top price for a Blonde steer at 216p/Kg (£1340.71). G Spencer, Derbys took top price for their Limousin Heifer at 220p/Kg (£1300.20)
