PRIME CATTLE - Auctioneer: Charles Hollis

Less stock forward. It does appear that my comments have been noted as several farmers had become Farm Assured in the last week or so and I can say it is to every farmer’s advantage to become Farm Assured. The additional price of one animal can cover the cost.

Another fantastic average in the OTM section – 121.5p/Kg; again beating all other local markets by a considerable amount, particularly Market Drayton where we averaged 24½p/Kg more.

It was suggested to me, at a function this week, by a retired farmer that he was not convinced that all my statements were fact. If anyone wants to question them, please step forward!

Fortunately the clean cattle trade has picked up slightly - still less than before Christmas but it spears we are heading in the right direction. Our prices compare favourably with everybody else; the only variation is a penny or two.

In the bull section Johnson, Shuttlewood were the highlights reaching 206p/Kg, averaging 198.03p/Kg, £1217.40 per head. Gordon was particularly delighted because he said he could do with a few extra bob for Valentine’s Day! Paddock was back in the frame with 4 bulls reaching 192p/Kg, averaging 187.82p/Kg, £1263.06 per head.

Highlight in the Steers was from Hazeldine Farms reaching 221p/Kg, averaging 192.77p/Kg, £1171.07 per head. Highlight in the Heifers was from A Faulconbridge & Son, Meriden reaching 228p/Kg, averaging 211.13p/Kg, £1205.00 per head.

We have received a complaint from Trading Standards that a few cattle are coming forward without both tags. Please assist by ensuring both tags are present when beasts come off the transport.
