ASHBOURNE Shrovetide Dance Committee recently raised £1,800 for its two nominated charities.

The fund-raising event, held at the Empire Club, saw a full house dancing the night away to Sparkies disco and a Freddie Mercury tribute act.

For more than 25 years the committee has been raising money for numerous clubs and organisations including Ashbourne Cadets, Ashbourne Town Band, Shrovetide Committee, Volunteer Bureau and many others.

This year the two organisations chosen, who both received cheques for £900, were Ashbourne Playaway Group and Defibrillators for Ashbourne.

On behalf of the two charities, Di Lambert and Ann Smith said: “Thanks to the Ashbourne Shrovetide Dance Committee for its wonderful donations which are vital for our causes and also a big thanks to people for supporting the dance and for the brilliant prizes donated by local companies.”
