CHRIS Sowter claimed his second medal victory in a month at Ashbourne Golf Club.

There was some low scoring in fine conditions but it was local builder Sowter who emerged on top with an eight-under par 63 to land the third division of the May Bank Holiday Medal.

In second place in the division was Paul Smith, from Uttoxeter, who also played extremely well to shoot a net 65.

The winner of the first division was a back-to-form Simon Griffiths from Cubley, whose best gross score of the day of 71, net 68,was good enough to hold off Darren Hooley with a net 69.

The second division prize went to Andrew Gallimore from Marston Montgomery with a net 67. He was followed by another local builder, Simon Knight, with a net 70.

It is very early days in the club's Order of Merit but at this stage the field is led by Michael Taylor from Osliston and Eric Fletcher.

The top four positions are: Michael F Taylor 20 points, Eric Fletcher 20, Simon Knight 19, Mark Wild 19.
