A VILLAGE fete, held in the picturesque village of Ilam, has raised thousands of pounds for good causes.

Early estimates show that the event - jointly organised by Dovedale House and Ilam Primary School - has raised approximately £4,000, which will be split equally between both institutions.

Sir Andrew Walker-Okeover opened the fete, held in the grounds of Dovedale House, and children from the school started off the proceedings with traditional maypole dancing.

Dry weather held out throughout the day, and hundreds of people enjoyed a wide-variety of attractions, including stalls, games and refreshments.

Parents from Ilam School Association and representatives from Dovedale House spent months planning the annual event.

Alex Robinson, chair of Ilam School Association, said: “The day went really well.

“We had a great deal of support, sponsorship and goodwill and we are extremely grateful to everyone who helped to make it a great success.”
