Ashbourne has been enjoying a mini heat-wave today, and tomorrow is looking like it will be even hotter.

Among thos enjoying the sunshine today were old school friends Joe Shrimpling, Elise Warner, Alice Toons-More and Anne Bunting who met up in the Memorial Gardens this afternoon.

People are being warned to take extra care with temperatures predicted to reach a scorching 30C tomorrow.

The Met Office has announced a level 2 health alert which means there is a 60% chance of temperatures being high enough on at least two consecutive days to have a significant effect on health.

There are four alert levels - with 1 being the lowest.

Tomorrow temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 30C at 4pm. Today, the forecaster said there will be highs of 25C at 6pm.

To stay safe in the sun, seek shade to cool down and keep hydrated with plenty of cool fluids.

Top tips include:

Try to keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm

Wear sunscreen

Wear loose cotton clothing

Drink lots of cool drinks

Seek shade

Wear sunglasses and a hat to reduce the risk of sunburn

Look out for others especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children and babies and those with serious illnesses

Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals.
