THE first residents have started moving in to new homes on a housing development in Ashbourne.

The Wellington Fields development, off Cavendish Drive, has seen nearly 65 properties become available for people in the area with 50 houses for rent and 15 houses for sale under a shared ownership scheme.

The properties were provided by Derbyshire housing provider Derwent Living and developed by Miller Homes East Midlands and despite a predicted completion date of spring 2013 families have already started moving in.

Mum-of-two Adelle Ratcliffe who has moved into a three bedroomed property on the development said: “I’m delighted with my new property, it’s the ideal family home. The house offers great space and the layout and modern finish works well for my family.

“The house is also in a really convenient location – just 20 minutes’ walk from the school and nursery that my children Bethany and Max attend. There are shops nearby and a bus into Asbourne town centre.

“The staff at Derwent Living have really helped me settle into my new home and have given me practical financial advice which I have found really useful.”

Derwent Living is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 1964 and it manages more than 15,000 properties in the Midlands, South Yorkshire and South East.

Steve McDonough, housing director at Derwent Living, said: “This is one of the first schemes underway using funds from the 2011-2015 Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) Affordable Homes Programme.

“The aim of the programme is to increase the supply of new affordable homes in England over the next four years.

“I’m pleased that Adelle, Bethany and Max, along with many other families, have begun to move into the finished homes at the Wellington Fields development in Ashbourne.

“We have made fantastic progress on this site and I am confident that all of the homes will be occupied as soon as the project is completed next year.”

Paul Walters, regional sales manager for Miller Homes in the East Midlands, added: “It’s always rewarding to welcome the first residents onto a scheme that we’ve had an involvement in.

“The provision of affordable housing is vital for many families and individuals across the region and we’re pleased to have worked alongside Derwent Living to bring a greater degree of choice to people in Ashbourne and the surrounding area.”
