Gothic Glamour

Written byBy Yasamin Saeidi

Looking at the Autumn/Winter 2012 catwalks, there is one look which dominates and is set to be huge this season. The gothic glamour trend harks back to fashion’s dark age – Victorian times.

From the John Rocha catwalk:

The Victorian era saw the introduction of sewing machines – allowing for more lavish trims with the use of intricate materials such as lace. Look to such materials In this trend revival – ultra feminine lace and chiffon will be lining lots of dresses this season.

It’s time also, to go back to black – a colour traditionally linked with mourning – something which Queen Victoria spent much of her time doing after the death of Prince Albert, hence the prominence of the colour in this era’s fashion. Today, our approach to this trend doesn't need to be so morbid – black also points to elegance, mystery and gothic edge. Unleash your inner goth and be brave with your make-up whilst perfecting your moodiest pout. Give any gothic inspired outfit a modern edge with studs, splashes of deep reds and purples and bulky statement jewellery.

Look out for our favourite gothic inspired pieces from the Autumn/Winter collections below:
