SHROVETIDE next week might benefit from an ‘improving picture’ in the area’s weather, forecasters have told the News Telegraph.

Experts at the Met Office say that early predictions suggest pressure should be building through the early part of next week, which should lead to drier and calmer weather than in recent weeks.Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday could start with a frost or a fog and rain on either day has not been ruled out but the current general trend in the weather is for a more settled period with lighter winds and less rain and the chance of some sunny spells.

Met Office forecaster Laura Young said: “It’s safe to say we’re entering a period of more settled weather and it’s definitely an improving picture. Whether this will last into next week for Shrovetide remains to be seen.”
