A NURSE at an Ashbourne doctors’ practice is retiring after more than 20 years’ service.

Practice manager for The Surgery in Clifton Road, Rachel Taft said: “Our wonderful lead nurse Bernie Shenton is leaving us after 20 years with the practice.

“She has seen many changes over that time and has cared for many people in the town, from immunising numerous generations of children, to caring for those with ongoing conditions.

“She is loved and respected by all her patients, on one occasion she even helped deliver a baby on the premises.

“We would like to reassure patients that they will be very well taken care of by nurse Emma and the new nursing team, which will be in place soon.

“That said, Bernie is irreplaceable and we know our patients will miss her dreadfully, as will everyone in the practice who has had the pleasure of working with her over the years.

“We would all like to wish her the very best for her retirement.

“As soon as we have the new team in place we will let everyone know.”
