Andrew Platt, the resident Chef de Partie at Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat, has been named as one of the finalists to compete for the prestigious Taste of Staffordshire Young Chef of Tomorrow Award.
On the 13th May 2013 thirteen finalists from some of the best restaurants in Staffordshire will come together at Stafford College to face the final round of taste tests from the judges. The event will include a live cook off during the day time, where the judges will be able to identify the best chefs of Staffordshire.
Andrew, aged 21 began working at Moddershall Oaks in September 2012 and has since shown great enthusiasm and talent as Chef de Partie.
Mentor and Head Chef Bruce Mackie commented, “We are extremely proud of Andrew for his efforts in the Taste of Staffordshire competition, since joining us last year Andrew has continued to prove himself as a remarkable chef. We wish him luck in the final stages and will be there to support him at the awards.”
Bruce, along with the owners Phil and Dea Holland of Moddershall Oaks will be attending the evening as moral support for their Young Chef of Tomorrow Finalist.
To be recognised for such an award so early on in his career, Andrew professes his success is due to the encouragement of his work colleagues, “since working at Moddershall Oaks I have gained a lot of valuable experience from the team along with advice and guidance from my mentor Bruce Mackie. Without such support I don’t think I would have realised my full potential.”
Andrew continued: “The competition is very high but I am going to show the judges the passion I have for cooking and hope my dishes prove to be the best in Staffordshire.”
The winner will be announced at a gala dinner and awards ceremony, held at Weston Park, Shropshire that same evening. The Young Chef of Tomorrow will scoop £250 and a work placement at a Michelin-star restaurant.
Moddershall Oaks are no strangers to the Taste of Staffordshire Awards winning Restaurant of the Year (European Influence) in 2009 and 2nd place in the same category in 2010.
Their restaurant is set in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside with a magnificent view of the lake. Open to the public 7 days a week, the menu combines fresh and locally sourced ingredients with the creativity and enthusiasm of top chefs.
