THE annual Ashbourne Rotary Horse Ride was another super boost for local charities, raising £1,200.

Local charities Aquabox and the Air Ambulance received cheques for £250 and £280 respectively, and the balance will be distributed by the Ashbourne Rotary Club as need arises in the Ashbourne area.

The ride, centered on Carsington Water and lasting about three hours, attracted 85 riders of all ages.

The day was organised around three rides, ranging from 14 miles for the experienced to five miles for novices and children.

"An opportunity to gallop across private fields was an added bonus" and "The whole ride was well organised and the stewards at strategic points made route finding safe easy" were comments from two regular riders.

This was the fifth ride and more than £4,000 has been raised over the years for local charities. At the end of the day a cheque was presented to Mike Tomlinson for Aquabox, and each rider received a commemorative rosette.
