FUNDING of more than £5 million for improvement to the highways and transport network across the county has been approved in principle by Derbyshire County Council.

Cabinet members approved £5.2 million of funding to allow design work and consultation to be carried out for a number of schemes which, if given the green light, would start later in the year.

The county council has secured grants of more than £21 million towards the highways and transport capital programme for 2014-15 but still needs to finalise its budget and so the list of schemes currently included might change.

Work could include road resurfacing, bridge replacements, landslip repairs, street lighting, new road signs, and improved parking facilities.
