ASHBOURNE’S drinking club with a running problem - the Hash House Harriers - recently held its Valentine’s day run from the Mundy Arms, Mackworth.

The club, which meets monthly, is part of a world-wide group of runners, and is keen to encourage new members to come and find out what hashing is all about.

Robin Eyre, the group’s ‘grand master’ said: “It’s a very social way to make new friends and meet like minded people.

“Hashers can be found all over the globe, I’ve been running with clubs in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and lots of other countries too.

“The Ashbourne group meets once a month, for a run of between five to seven miles, but there are always short cuts for those who don’t want to do the full distance.

“We are a family club too - so children are welcome, and there is usually a walking route for non-runners.”

The next meeting is at 11am on Saturday, March 1 from the Sycamore pub in Parwich.
