ASHBOURNE’S secondary school head teacher is appealing for help from News Telegraph readers as it prepares for the forthcoming 2014 commemorations.

Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School is marking 100 years since the start of World War One by publishing a newspaper from 1914-18.

Anne Martin wants people to get in touch with stories or experiences from the Great War - either from battle or from home.

She said: “Stories can be delivered to school, handwritten or typed to main reception; or emailed in.

“Our deadline for stories, poems or anecdotes is the end of March.”

The Green Road school’s 1914-18 newspaper will be published with lottery funding through the 2014 committee and will be delivered to every household in the area.

The school’s commemorations will begin with an afternoon tea party on the site in July 15.
