Tried and Tested eye liner

Written byLeah Cassady

Eye liner, whether you use it daily or just for defined eyes on a special occasion, there are a few things you want from it. Personally I look for bold colour that lasts.

Don't you hate it when you spot yourself in a mirror and notice your liner has slipped to your cheekbones? Then you're paranoid all day, wiping under your eyes just in case... what a waste of time.

So I've tried and tested a huge range to get a good feel for each one and what you can expect from them. Whether you prefer pencil, pen, gel or liquid, have a read and see which one is for you.

Bare Minerals, Round the Clock Waterproof Eyeliner - £13

This pencil eyeliner is fantastic. It goes on easily and creates a thick line as well as staying in place all day without any worries of smudging. It’s also available in a variety of colours, what more could you want!

5/5

Rimmel, Exaggerate liquid liner - £5.29

This liquid liner smooths on and dries out quickly. It feels weightless and doesn't clump up or crack. However, my expertly drawn razor sharp line (slight exaggeration) did seem to show signs of wear along the edges.

3.5/5

GOSH, Velvet Touch Eye Liner - £4.99

This liner is great for injecting a little colour! I tested the renaissance gold pencil and found it stayed in place all day, it glides on smoothly and could even be used as eye shadow.

4.5/5

New York Colour, Metallic eyeliner - £2.99

This tube has a small brush to apply the liner, though I found it tended to flex more than I'd like. However, it stayed in place and had a great shimmer, just as its title implies.

3/5

Rimmel, Exaggerate eye liner - £3.99

Unfortunately this liner wore off quickly when placed along my lower lash line, however I also tried it on my skin just below and above my lashes and it lasted much better. It didn’t apply too easily so I had to repeat the line a few times but the smudger on the end is a handy tool.

3/5

Clarins, Instant Liner - £20

I’m not great at creating a straight line above my lashes so was quite relieved when I actually managed the task using this product. The foam style tip allowed me to easily sweep the liquid liner across in small, short lines and it lasted well.

5/5

Revlon, ColourStay - £6.99

The brush made creating a defined line easy, even a novice like me didn’t have any trouble with it. I found gel fantastic, it's easy to manipulate and great for making a statement with chunky lines!

3.5/5

Laura Mercia, Caviar Stick Eye Colour - £20.50

This is an eye colour but with precise hands who’s to say you can't line your lids with it! Mix things up a little and give it a go, this stick slicks on quickly and has a fantastic glimmer to it.

3/5

Miss Sporty, Metallic eyeliner - £2.79

This is a bargain, it lasts and once dry it doesn't smudge or fade. Metallic is set to be big and what better way to get on trend than with stunning statement eyes.

3.5/5

Lancôme, Crayon Khôl - £16

For the price tag I wasn't impressed with this product, it goes on well but after a few hours I found it had mosty faded.

Top tip: If you have any loose eye shadow, why not try using it as an eye liner. Simply wet a brush and create the desired flick across your top lid.
