Trott in the mix in the omnium
Olympic gold medal winner and defending world champion Laura Trott was fifth after two events in the omnium at the Track Cycling World Championships in Minsk.
Trott was third in the flying lap in 14.325 seconds and finished 10th in the points race.
The discipline, which features eight sprints over 80 laps (20km), is usually Trott's weakest of the six in the multi-discipline omnium.
Due to her ability in the other events, Trott is often heavily marked and she struggled to make an impact as her rivals managed to gain a lap and consistently accumulate points.
Sarah Hammer of the United States, who won the individual pursuit on day one, finished third to move into the overall lead on seven points.
Poland's Katarzyna Pawlowska, the scratch race champion, has eight points, Edmondson nine and Li Huang of China 12.
Brennauer is equal with Trott on 13 points.
