MAYFIELD well-dressing takes place in the conservation area of Middle Mayfield from Saturday to Friday, June 14 to 20.

There will be a blessing at 2pm on Saturday, starting at the Trough Well, followed at 3pm by a garden fete on the lawn of Mayfield Hall.

Come along and enjoy tea and cakes to the music of the Osmaston Wind Band and see maypole dancing by the children of the Henry Prince First School. There will be various stalls, a raffle and tombola – show your support to help maintain the ancient tradition of well dressing.

The blessing and fete is being staged on the Saturday only but wells will be on display until Friday.

The Mayfield community is very supportive of the well-dressing tradition, particularly the Prince family, which allows organisers to "petal" at its farm; and Michael Brett who opens up his garden at Mayfield Hall to provide a lovely location for the fete.

Each year, Mayfield's "petallers" faithfully return and are very skilled in their artistic interpretation.

However, new recruits to the tradition are always encouraged and, if you are interested, contact Linda on 01335 344290.

On Saturday, a voluntary one way system for vehicles will operate via Hermitage Lane.
