IT was a hands-on experience for Sutton-on-the-Hill WI members when Alison Daykin gave a demonstration of spinning.
Alison, who has been a spinner for 30 years, gave out spindles and wool and explained the technics involved in joining the fibres to the spindle and twisting them to make a yarn suitable for weaving or knitting.
Members had varying degrees of success with the length of yarn that they were able to produce.
Jean Jagger thanked Alison for a very interesting experience.
Joy Brandrick, president, reported on an enjoyable evening hosted by Sudbury Institute when several members where able to see the National Federation's centenary baton on its recent visit to Derbyshire before continuing its countrywide journey.
A visit to Rudyard Lake would take place on August 11, when members will be able to have a steamboat trip on the lake, followed by a cream tea.
A visit was being arranged to the Chatsworth House Christmas market in November, when invitations would be sent to other interested institutes.
Several members would be visiting the Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent in September to see a production of War Horse.
