IT IS about three months now since the Coalition Government announced the availability of funds for capital works and infrastructure improvements.
I hope that our local councillor and county council leader is working strenuously to obtain some of these funds for the construction of the proposed Ashbourne by-pass.
Until this is done, and traffic can be removed from the bottom of Burton Road, and the area down from the market place (St John’s Street, part of Church Street, and Dig street) pedestrianised, then Ashbourne cannot hope to offer the best shopping environment for locals and visitors alike, and the market, currently threatened with a Thursday shutdown, will continue to struggle and Saturday market will also be at risk.
However I have heard no whisper of such efforts being made on our behalf.
Have I missed something?
