ONE of the big questions today that needs answering is ‘is global warming and climate change today the result of man made CO2 emissions or is it the natural cycle that has been going on for hundreds of millions of years, hot, cold, freeze, hot, cold, freeze or any combination of these — of which we have an excellent record’?
A simple question, you may think, so why is it that the government, councils, the BBC and media biased towards the political left wish to suppress debate? Well, what is carbon dioxide, CO2? It is a chemical compound of two oxygen atoms covalently bonded to a single carbon atom and is a gas at standard temperature and pressure.
The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere from all sources is described variously as 385ppmv or as 0.0385 per cent of the atmosphere.
Of this figure some 57 per cent arises naturally from the oceans and seas, rocks, geysers, volcanoes and from rotting vegetation.
Some 40 per cent of the figure arises from human activity plus 6.5 billion people, billions of animals breathing out plus their flatulence .
Now, we have two camps on GW and CC ‘the alarmists’ and ‘the sceptics’. The alarmists come from a very political organisation the (IPCC) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and was set up in 1988 under the auspices of the WMO, World Meteorological Organisation and the UN Environment Programme.
It has some 2,500 scientists of which only some 300 are climatologists etc, the others have a wide ranging background from economists to railway engineers.
The chairman of the IPCC, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, is a qualified railway engineer but he is their leading scientist on global warming and climate change.
Other notables in this camp are the American politician AL Gore, Senator Kerry, James Hansen, Ed Miliband and the Climate Research Unit of the East Anglia University.
Al Gore’s alarmist film had at least seven major errors and inaccuracies and his projection and use of the ‘hockey stick’ is an amazing blunder.
Dr Rajendra Pachauri has gone on record with his apology for claiming the Himalayan Glaciers could vanish within 25 years.
He based his statement on a report from the WWF, World Wildlife Fund who took it from a report in the New Scientist which in itself was based on a phone call in 1999 with a Dr Hasnain and was only a summation.
The Climate Change Dept of the East Anglia University have mislaid their scientific paper on climate change. Oh dear.
Dr Benny Peiser, of the Global Warming Policy Foundation said ‘the time has come to completely overhaul the structure and workings of the IPCC.
Until it accepts to undergo a root and branch reform it will continue to haemorrhage creditability.
In the sceptic camp we have 17,000 scientists (this has now climbed to 30,000 todays date) mainly climatologists, geologists, geographers who are largely retired and do not fear for their jobs or funding signed the ‘Oregan Petition’ against the Kyoto protocol. More and more webs and national news papers are coming out against the spin generated by the alarmists.
The nuclear lobby, the alternative’s lobby, the politicians. At stake billions and billions of pounds and dollars in ever more nuclear power stations, manufacturing the alternatives and the ‘bankers, oh the bankers’ who will handle and excessively profit by the sale, purchase and handling of the CO2 carbon certificates.
Gordon Brown has pledged/promised £1.5 billion to countries effected by man made global warming and climate change.
None of this will be spent in our country to further bolster up our flood defence and damage schemes which are under funded and resourced.
So where does all this leave us ‘the man in the street’? Well, we pick up the bill along with the bill for bailing out the banks and paying for MP’s expenses. My prayer for the day: ‘Please God let me live another 30 years I do not want to die and leave my family in debt.
