I FEEL compelled to write to your newspaper about the closing of the cafe on the car park.
‘Harms the historic environment’ – what a joke.
Yet again a thriving little business goes to the wall because of stupid decisions.
In this time of depression, surely we should be encouraging these businesses to keep afloat and bring much-needed trade into the town because, let’s face it, parking charges and the lack of middle-of-the-road-priced shops aren’t doing anything for us, are they?
Does the new superloo keep in with the historic environment, then?
Does the new library keep in with the historic environment, then?
Does the brick wall built over by FishpondMeadow keep in with the historic environment, then?
Does Sainsbury’s keep in with the historic environment, then?
And with the Sainsbury’s development, another thriving little business had to shut its doors too – Busy Bees now stands empty.
These people who sit in their ivory towers and make these decisions really do want to come and see what the real world is like.
This lady is attempting to make an honest living, is always busy and wanting to provide a warm and friendly service to the town.
For heaven’s sake, let her carry on.
The fact that she has been there for two years, and it takes this long to make a decision, is disgusting in itself.
No doubt some councillor has plans to make the space into yet more housing, but don’t worry folks – that will be in keeping with the historic development and so will get passed.
Ashbourne is dying on its feet. Open your eyes, councillors – pull your fingers out and get something done about it.
