It was lovely to see so many people at the Ashbourne Christmas lights switch on on Saturday.
The band festively played a background introduction before the mayor introduced the guest and switched them on to a roar of applause and a surprising following of fireworks. It was such a shame that Ashbourne’s retailers didn’t take this wonderful opportunity for custom though.
Lots headed to the craft fair in the Town Hall but the amount of people who attended could have spent a couple of pounds in their local shops while celebrating the start of the festive season. The coffee shops missed a trick as mulled wine and hot chocolate would have been a lovely accompaniment and it wasn’t as if the event wasn’t advertised.
Come on Ashbourne! Hopefully it will be a different case at late night shopping.
