ON TUESDAY, August 20 I was leaning against the wall at the bus stop outside the hospital, resting my aching back, to my amazement a large 4X4 drew up alongside me and a lady asked if I was all right.
I assured her that all was well and that, even with my walking stick, I could no longer walk the short distance into town and was waiting for a bus. Whereupon she helped me into the back of her car and insisted on taking me into Ashbourne and dropped me right outside Waitrose.
I must add that she had already turned this large vehicle round to come back to me and then had to turn it round again to face Ashbourne.
All this was not easy on the busy main road with queues of traffic.
Not many people would do that today and I only hope she reads this and realises how grateful I am for this very helpful gesture.
I only hope the very rude man who pushed past this elderly lady with a walking stick in the bus station some 10 minutes later in his eagerness to get on the bus first learns some manners before he is my age!
