When the giants dug up our field

ONCE upon a time, on a street named after the King, in a little town called Ashbourne there was a beautiful green field beside the river where the citizens sat on benches to eat their lunch, sunbathed, took their children to play or just sat and watched the world go by.

Then one day a giant came along and dug the field up. The citizens, being trusting little chaps, surmised that, after the giant had finished the improvements, the grass and tables and benches would be restored and they would once again contentedly eat their lunch and read “The Stunner” in that happy little spot.

However, last year, the giant and his henchmen went away leaving behind them a sad, soggy field that the citizens were unable to use and now they are asking many questions.

Is the field being left like this so that it matches the sorry state of the Henmore Centre that is used by the elder citizens of the little town? Is the giant coming back to do more improvements? Is the giant coming back to restore the field ? Is this story going to have a happy ending? PAT HALL STANTON
