POLICE are appealing to Ashbourne drivers, who may have been on the M6 on Saturday, to get in touch if they witnessed a serious crash.
Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the M6, at Keele, at 9.30am, following a report of a collision involving a silver Toyota Rav 4.
The driver, a 71-year-old man from the East Sussex area, was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
He remains in a critical, but stable, condition.
The road was closed for approximately one-and-a-half hours whilst a detailed scene examination was carried out.
A spokesman for the police said: "We would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding whilst this took place."
An investigation to understand the circumstances of the collision is now underway and witnesses are asked to contact PC Rob Green on 101 quoting incident number 277 of August 16.
