SOLICITORS in Ashbourne are giving up their time, money and expertise for the area's air ambulance.

Ashbourne Independent Financial Solutions is joining six other law firms in Derbyshire and taking part in Make a Will Week to help raise funds for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).

From Monday, March 31 to Friday, April 4, solicitors will provide a standard will writing and updating service to customers, free-of-charge. All they ask for is a donation to the charity in return.

Making a will can be a difficult and expensive process, usually costing between £100 and £175.

Other firms involved with the scheme are Rickards and Cleaver in Alfreton, Alexander and Co in Derby and Spondon, Belper Independent Financial Solutions Ltd in Belper and Heanor, plus Nelsons Solicitors and Simpson Jones in Derby.

Make a Will Week also gives potential supporters an opportunity to leave a gift in their will for DLRAA.

The charity, which receives no government funding, relies heavily on legacies, and received £1.3 million through gifts left in wills in 2013.

Catherine Burchnall, head of central services at DLRAA, said: “We held this initiative with solicitors across Warwickshire and Northamptonshire in October 2013 for our sister service, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

"Back then, we raised an amazing £10,000 and we are hoping for more success this time around.

“As a charity, we are incredibly grateful to the solicitors that have agreed to take part in Make a Will Week.

"Their dedication will help our charity continue to save lives within the local community.”

Each rescue mission carried out by DLRAA costs approximately £1,700, which is funded entirely by public donations.

It has carried out more than 5,700 rescue missions since 2008, potentially saving many lives in the process.

In 2013, the service carried out 315 rescue missions in Derbyshire – more than any other county.
