THREE Ashbourne business owners have raised £3,000 by running a marathon.

Peter and Laura Dale, who run the Dining Room restaurant, in St John Street, along with Kiki Hall from Air Hairdressing, in Dig Street, took on the Connemarathon in County Galway, Ireland, to raise funds for cancer charity Macmillan.

Laura, who suffered from illness mid-way through her training, took on the half-marathon, while Peter and Kiki ran the full course.

Peter said: "Laura completed her half successfully and she enjoyed it despite the weather, which was four seasons in five minutes – wet, hot, cold but always very windy.

"Kiki finished in five hours and five minutes and I finished in five hours and 22.

"Given that it was so hilly and windy, all three of us are pleased with our performances and even happier with the £3,000 raised so far."

Peter is now planning another challenge, along with Ashbourne fitness instructor Barry Thraves, on June 1. They have entered the Outlaw Half Triathlon in Nottingham. To donate to the Macmillan cause, visit www.justgiving. com/laura-dale2.
