ASHBOURNE swimmer Matt Holt took double gold at the Midland Region Age Group Championships at Coventry.
Competing in the 13 years age category, he won both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events at the championships, which were held over two weekends.
He swam well in the heats and comfortably qualified for both finals.
He was particularly happy with his performance in the 200m final, which he won with a personal best time of two minutes 36 seconds.
He also came away with a bronze medal in the boys 4x200m freestyle relay.
Holt, who now trains with the Derbyshire Performance Squad, Derventio eXcel, but whose home club remains Ashbourne, has qualified for the British National Age Group Championships which are due to take place in Sheffield at the end of this month.
YOUNG swimmers from Ashbourne and District SC put in some strong performances in the Four Towns Gala.
Competing against teams from Belper, Leek and the Dove Valley, they ended the day with eight first place finishes.
They were also issued with a number of 'speeding tickets' for beating their entry times.
Rob Wheeler, Lydia Cox, Toby Doran, Elena Cox and Jolyon Woodisse all came first in their age groups in the 50m freestyle events.
Paul Haswell won the 50m backstroke and both the open age group and the U14 teams won their 4x25m freestyle relays.
A total of 18 swimmers recorded personal best times.
Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to keep Ashbourne from fourth place but a much improved performance saw them again narrow the gap between themselves and the other clubs.
