It's not always possible for those we love to remain in their own homes, even with devoted support from family and carers but choosing the right care home can be stressful for everyone.

A Milford Care spokesman said: "We understand how difficult this time of decision-making can be. That's why we offer short stay options at our homes in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to potential residents who would like to spend some time with us before making up their minds. As well as permanent care, we offer day care, respite and trial stays, all of which reflect the way we work. In our care homes we believe in working together with residents and families to provide the best service possible. This means treating every resident in our homes as an individual with different needs.

"At Milford Care, meeting those needs involves tailor-made care packages for every person who lives with us.

"We also work hard to provide an all-embracing, holistic approach. This includes creating a home-from-home atmosphere.

"Wherever possible, we consult our residents in decision-making – from interviewing potential new staff members to deciding what should be on the menu. After all, this is their home.

"If you have not already visited any of our homes, you are most welcome to join us and discuss your requirements over a cup of tea or coffee.

"At the same time, you will see at first hand the care and warmth that our homes provide – and just why our reputation is based on quality.

"At Milford Care Homes it is the right of each resident in our care…

To be cared for with dignity, respect, compassion and kindness;

To receive care based on individual needs and informed choice;

To feel part of the community;

To voice opinions and make personal decisions at all times;

And to be cared for by people who appreciate their need for privacy."
