EIGHTEEN members of the Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ Joint Snatch Squad were called to the stepping stones at Chee Dale near to Chee Tor, Millers Dale following reports of an injured rock climber yesterday.

The 31-year-old man from Sheffield had been reaching upwards when his shoulder dislocated. His climbing partner was able to lower him to the river side path but the pain prevented him from walking any distance.

East Midlands Ambulance Service was first on scene with a paramedic able to give pain relief to the casualty.

The rescue snatch squad accessed the site from Millers Dale driving along the disused railway and through Chee Tor tunnel. The casualty was placed on a rescue stretcher and carried along the river back to the tunnel mouth.

There an ambulance was waiting to transfer the casualty to a Sheffield hospital.
